What your raffle purchase (donation) will help with:
Throughout 2017, Cape Fear Solar Systems has worked with the Basilica Shrine of St. Mary to design a solar power system with a battery backup for The Clinica Santa Maria in Honduras, which was built in 2008 by the St. Mary’s parish of Wilmington, North Carolina.
Cape Fear Solar Systems is returning to Honduras in March of 2018 to complete the installation of an off-grid solar system for the medical clinic. In this extremely dusty area, hundreds of children suffer from severe allergies and require frequent nebulizer treatments (medicated breathing treatments). There is an extreme shortage of electricity where the medical clinic is located and children that do not receive the treatments risk severe complications including death. Since the breathing treatments require electricity, the Basilica Shrine of St. Mary enlisted the help from solar experts at Cape Fear Solar to create a solution.
Funding of solar materials, equipment, tools, and travel to Honduras is costly. Cape Fear Solar is donating material and staff to engineer and install the solar system but will need raise approximately $25,000 to complete the solar project in Honduras.
The clinic treats as many as 600 patients a month. Some of the patients even walk as much as three hours to and from the clinic to see a doctor or to receive nebulizer treatments. Frequent power outages make it challenging for the clinic and those who are in need of medical care.
